CFC to offer Walk With Ease Program

The Coronado Fitness Center at Hot Springs Village has been awarded an in-kind grant to partner with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) to train instructors and offer in Hot Springs Village an evidence-based walking program, Walk With Ease.

  • NRPA, with the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) partners with recreation agencies across the country to provide training and offer evidence based physical activity programs. These programs are designed to help people with a variety of chronic diseases manage their conditions through physical activity and health education. Approximately 130 grants were awarded nationwide.
  • Walk With Ease is a low-impact walking program, offered in a six-week session which includes three one-hour classes per week and participant booklets. The Coronado Fitness Center will be offering the class in March 2020.
  • Recreation opportunities are assets and important health and wellness opportunities in the community. They provide optimal settings for individuals to engage in a wide range of physical activity programs. To date, 285 agencies across 48 states and American Samoa have offered evidence-based physical activity programs, reaching more than 20,000 participants.

Grant Coordinator for Hot Springs Village is Cassandra Booth, Fitness Coordinator at the Coronado Fitness Center. This is the second year Hot Springs Village was awarded the grant. Last year, more than 50 people participated in the Hot Springs Village program.
